It may seem like a while away but ‘back-to-school’ is just around the corner now! We know how difficult it can be to get both yourself and the kiddies back into a routine, and even harder for those mummies sending their children to school for the first time. That’s why we’ve put together a list to help you get back into the swing of things.
Start Adjusting Your Body Clock
Come the first day of school, you’re going to be dragging yourself and the kiddies out of bed. We suggest that a week or two before school starts up, you should start sending the children to bed a little earlier and wake them up a little earlier each time. It takes a while for your children’s bodies to adjust to non-summer hours, and will help to lessen their tiredness when the first day back comes around!
Get Cultural
Everyone’s brains go to mush over Summer, and we often forget how to perform the simplest of tasks. In the weeks leading up to back-to-school, take the little ones to museums and art galleries. Check up on the syllabus and you can help them to get a head start thinking about their subjects for the upcoming year. Using different parts of the brain will also help them to improve their concentration once school comes around.
Get Planning
Go out and buy or create a family planner. Pinpoint all the key family activities, events, play dates and so on. This will help you and the kids to get back into a routine, as well as highlighting any potential conflicts that may lay ahead. By getting the children used to a calendar, it will help them to manage and organise their time and schedules once they’re back in school.
Think Ahead
Whether they’re starting school for the first time or heading into a new year group, make sure to have a chat with your children and discuss what to expect on the first day. This could include making new friends, learning new subjects, or taking on more responsibility. By discussing these issues now, you can expect a lot less stress on the morning of the back-to-school day.
Schedule In Those Playdates
Over the summer, you might be spending a lot of your time with your children, whether it be a day at the beach, going abroad or a good old family activity day. However, it is important that you arrange play dates with your child’s school friends, or for those only just starting, children that you know who are attending the same school. Over Summer, social ties can often cool and make the first day back a stressful time for your child.
